This program is for children who are 3 to 5 years old and their parents.
Early Literacy and Learning Model/Plus (ELLM/Plus), a school-based curriculum, is designed to enhance children's literacy knowledge and proficiency, promote use of higher-order thinking skills, and improve academic achievement.
No peer-reviewed publications evaluating the effectiveness of this program were located.
ELLM/Plus incorporates cognitive and social-emotional development through activities and learning support within early literacy. Core components of the program include the following:
Family involvement includes the following: offering books from classroom libraries to promote reading at home, inviting families to participate in four school-based events, sending home monthly tip sheets, encouraging use of Family Engagement Materials in the curriculum, and sending home take-home bracelets.
The extent to which this program has been implemented is unclear.
This program is implemented by teachers, and several on-site training options are available that include a 1-day introductory training, a 2-day in-depth training, and a 3-day intensive training. Hosting sites must provide a meeting room with audio-visual equipment, morning and afternoon breaks, and trainer travel fees. Considerations for implementing this program include obtaining teacher, school administration, and participant buy-in; incorporating the program into an existing curriculum; acquiring funds for program materials and training; understanding that accommodations will need to be made for hosting on-site training; finding time for teachers to attend training; and ensuring the program is implemented with fidelity.

To move ELLM/Plus to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one well-designed evaluation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least one year from the beginning of the program or at least six months from program completion.
