This program is for families with children who are 8 years old and older.
Family Wellness: Survival Skills for Healthy Families, a community-based program, is designed to foster healthy family communication and interactions; improve parenting skills; prevent domestic violence and drug, alcohol, and child abuse; and strengthen couple's relationships.

Family Wellness: Survival Skills for Healthy Families is delivered to large groups of families or individuals and can be administered in a variety of settings (e.g., school, community). The program specifically focuses on improving parenting, communication, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills; family functioning; and couple satisfaction/functioning. Sessions include the following:
Children participate in all sessions except for those that focus on couple relationships.
Family Wellness: Survival Skills for Healthy Families was developed in 1980 and has been delivered by more than 20,000 trained instructors to over 2,000,000 families in the United States and internationally. This program has been implemented by a variety of individuals and organizations, including therapists, counselors, schools, social services, and churches. Target populations have included the military and Latino, Native American, African American, and Asian cultures; refugees; foster/adoptive families; grandparents raising grandchildren; fathers; and pre-marital couples.
This program is delivered by trained teachers, principals, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers, chaplains, clergy, social workers, nurses, family life educators, and community leaders. Training and certification are required for implementation. Training consists of a 3-day, on-site workshop and costs $750 per person. Recertification is required every 3 years and costs $150 per person.
Considerations for implementing this program include obtaining facilitators who have a suitable background, ensuring facilitators receive training, recruiting and retaining families, and finding space and suitable times to hold sessions.

Family Wellness: Survival Skills for Healthy Families is delivered in 8 2-hour sessions.
The training fee includes an instructor manual, a CD of handouts, and a workbook that is used for program implementation. Additional materials can be purchased separately.
