Workshops are presented by Drs. John and Julie Gottman or by Certified Gottman Therapists. Participants in ASL learn and practice skills that can repair and enrich their relationship. Couples learn how to develop and enhance respect, affection, and closeness; strengthen connections with one another; manage conflict calmly; and maintain positive progress in the relationship.
Topics covered in workshops include the following:
This program can be implemented as a 2-day live or virutal workshop, an online workshop, or as a home-study kit. Couples who attend a live event also receive a physical box set of workshop materials to use at home.
ASL workshops are held around the world, and more than 3,000 couples have participated in this program in the United States and Canada. ASL is a partner of the Wounded Warrior Project.
For the workshop delivery option, this program is facilitated by the developers or by a Certified Gottman Therapist who must hold at least a master's level degree and be licensed or certified in a mental health-related field. These facilitators must also complete three levels of training; a certification track; and additional, specific training. Each level of training is available live, as home study, or as group study, and costs vary for each format. Please call 1-888-523-9042 EXT 2, email training@gottman.com, or visit https://www.gottman.com/professionals/training/ for more information.
Considerations for implementing this program include acquiring participant buy-in and commitment, recruiting facilitators for the workshop delivery option and ensuring they complete training, locating space to hold workshops, and making time to work through program materials if choosing the home-study or online options.
The Clearinghouse can help address these considerations. Please call 1-877-382-9185 or email Clearinghouse@psu.edu
