This program was for Latino youth in middle school and their parents.
The ASPIRA Math and Science Academy (MAS Academy), an after-school program, was designed to enhance participants' interest in and literacy of math and science and increase Latino representation in math- and science-related careers.
No peer-reviewed publications evaluating the effectiveness of this program were located.
The ASPIRA MAS Academy program operated during the academic year and in the summer and was a part of the ASPIRA Community Allies for Smart Access to Math and Science (CASA MAS). The program included hands-on and extra-curricular activities, career guidance, role-modeling, and parental involvement. For example, family math lessons were completed at home and provided opportunities for children to enhance their learning and parents to be role models.

The ASPIRA Association, Inc., was founded as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1961. ASPIRA programs are currently implemented across the United States and internationally. The extent to which ASPIRA MAS Academy, specifically, was implemented is unknown.
Training was available from the ASPIRA National Office.
Though this program is no longer available, considerations for implementing a similar program could include obtaining buy-in from school or organization administration, recruiting teachers to lead program sessions, realizing facilitator training could be required, finding time for program activities, and understanding curricular materials may need to be purchased.

The after-school ASPIRA MAS Academy program met twice a week for 2 hours each week or every Saturday for 4 to 5 hours. The summer ASPIRA MAS Academy program met daily for 4 weeks.
The Curriculum and Coordinator Manual was available for free on the ASPIRA website. Contact information for purchasing curricular materials used in program activities was included in the curriculum.
To move the ASPIRA MAS Academy program to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one evaluation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least one year from the beginning of the program or at least six months from program completion.
