Girls Inc. Media Literacy®, a community- or school-based program, is designed to raise awareness about the power of the media and how media messages can affect females. Participants learn to analyze media, advocate for change, and create their own versions of realistic media.

The first Girls Club, now Girls Inc., began in 1864. Currently, Girls Inc. organizations serve over 140,000 girls every year across the United States and Canada. The extent to which the Media Literacy program has been implemented was not located.

Implementation costs will vary depending on an organization’s location and resources.
To move the Girls Inc. Media Literacy program to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one evaluation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least one year from the beginning of the program or at least six months from program completion.
