This program offered curricula for a variety of individuals from preschoolers to older adults.
GeoMotion consisted of curricula that promoted physical activity combined with academic and practical learning.
No peer-reviewed publications evaluating the effectiveness of this program were located.
GeoMotion’s curricula consisted of GeoDance, Learnercise, and GeoFitness and were based on the goal of combining learning with physical activity. The core equipment for the program was the GeoMat, a 3/8-inch thick, soft foam exercise mat. Participants moved around on the mats stepping on letters, numbers, or images in response to academic questions or instructions provided by instructors or DVDs/CDs.
Various curricula and accessories (e.g., DVDs/CDs and activity cards) coordinated with different types of GeoMats to provide a variety of physical activities for different age groups:
Dr. Debbie Mitchell founded GeoMotion Group, Inc., in 2002. However, as of 2018, the company closed.
No information about training was located.
Although this program is no longer available, considerations for implementing a similar program could include obtaining a mat for each participant in order for him or her to participate in the program activities, acquiring funding for training, offering training to facilitators on the use of the mats and delivery of the curriculum, and providing time for teachers to prepare and teach the activities if using the program with students in school.
The Clearinghouse can help address these considerations. Please call 1-877-382-9185 or email Clearinghouse@psu.edu
