Class Action, a school-based alcohol use prevention curriculum, is designed to postpone onset of alcohol use for participants, decrease use among youth who have already started to drink, and minimize alcohol-related concerns and consequences. Class Action is the high school component of Project Northland*.

No peer-reviewed publications evaluating the effectiveness of Class Action as a stand-alone program were located.
Class Action focuses on the social and legal consequences of underage drinking. During sessions, teens are divided into six to eight groups to research, prepare, and present civil cases, which involve underage drinking and personal injury situations. The eight cases include the following:
In addition, students research community alcohol-related issues and get involved in local events to promote community awareness of underage drinking.
This program may be used as a booster session to the Northland Project or as a stand-alone program.
Class Action/Project Northland has been used in several thousand implementation sites across the United States and worldwide.
This program is implemented by classroom teachers. The program manual includes details for delivery of the curriculum; however, optional on-site and off-site trainings are available. Please use details in the Contact section for more information on training and costs.
Considerations for implementing this program include acquiring teacher, student, administrative, and parent buy-in; obtaining training for teachers or giving teachers time to read the program manual; understanding this program may broach sensitive topics; and making time for program lessons in an existing classroom curriculum.

Class Action is implemented in the school's regular curriculum and consists of 8- to 10-weekly lessons.
The Class Action teacher's manual costs $795.
To move Class Action to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one evaluation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least one year from the beginning of the program or at least six months from program completion.
