This program is for children who live in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago Children (CLOCC), a community-based obesity prevention program, intends to promote healthy and active lifestyles for children living in the Chicago metropolitan area.

CLOCC has received national recognition from the Institute of Medicine, the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Medical Association, and the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention. The program includes environmental changes, public education, advocacy, research, outcome measurement, and program evaluation. Healthy lifestyle messages for children are supported through the program’s eight focus areas, which include the following:

The program was developed in 2002. Currently, there are over 3,000 participants in CLOCC representing over 1,200 organizations across Illinois and throughout the country. The program is currently housed at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

Considerations for implementing this program include understanding that the program has only been implemented in the Chicago area, realizing there are several different programs the Consortium offers and communities may want to select one to get started, appreciating program initiatives include policy changes that can take a long time to implement within communities, and recognizing substantial funds may be required to implement policies and programs.

To move To move CLOCC to the Promising category on the Clearinghouse Continuum of Evidence, at least one evaluation should be performed demonstrating positive effects lasting at least one year from the beginning of the program or at least six months from program completion.
